League Information

Spring Season

The Spring baseball season traditionally begins with tryouts in February. Teams form and practices start near the end of February, with games beginning around April 1. The end of season tournaments typically take place in late May or early June. The Spring Season includes:

Modified Coach Pitch (MCP) for ages 5 - 6

Rookie League (coach pitch) for ages 6 - 8

Minor League for ages 9 - 10

Major League for ages 11 - 12

(Ages as of April 30)

Practice times will be 5:00pm (6:30-7:00pm cages), 6:30pm (6:00-6:30pm cages), and 8:00pm (7:30-8:00pm cages) on weekdays. Practices on Saturdays will start at 8:00am and on Sundays at 1:00pm.

All games will be played at West Raleigh Exchange Club Park at 5:30pm and 7:30pm on weekdays. Games on Saturdays will start at 9:30am and on Sundays at 1:00pm.

All Star Season

Highly skilled 8-12 year old players are selected from each league to represent West Raleigh in tournaments throughout the Summer (June - August). West Raleigh Baseball All Star teams frequently reach Regional and National competitions, having won 9 National Championships and 1 World Championship.

Fall Season

The Fall baseball season begins with tryouts in August. Teams form and practices start near the middle-late of August with games beginning in September. The end of season Tournaments typically take place in late October or early November. The Fall season includes:

Modified Coach Pitch (MCP) for ages 4-5

Rookie League (coach pitch) for ages 5-7

Minor League for ages 8-9

Major League for ages 10-11

Practice times will be 5:00pm (6:30-7:00pm cages), 6:30pm (6:00-6:30pm cages), and 8:00pm (7:30-8:00pm cages) on weekdays. Practices on Saturdays will start at 8:00am and on Sundays at 1:00pm.

For players and families wishing to play with their grade level, those who request to "Play Up" a division. Division placement is based on player age as of April 30th and/or grade level.

Who's Eligible?

If a player's date of birth falls after April 30th of the given year, but they fall short of playing with that league that correlates to their grade's age, they are eligible to participate in the assessment for that division.

 

MCP Participants wishing to play Rookie

MCP participants wishing to play-up will need to have a written recommendation from their previous year's coach that will be evaluated by the Executive Director and/or Board of Directors based on player safety and equality of facilitation for the division. This only applies for league aged 5 year olds in the Spring and 4 year olds in the Fall.

Rookie Participants wishing to play Minor

To qualify to "play-up" in the Minors division, the player must meet the following criteria:

  • The player must be age-eligible as an 8 year old (Spring) and 7 year old (Fall) based on the player's age as of April 30th of the given year.
  • The player must attend the tryouts, or obtain a waiver form the Executive Director and/or Board of Directors.
  • The player must be cleared to safely participate in Minors without being a hazard to themselves or other players.

Minors Participants wanting to play Majors

  • The player must be age-eligible as an 8 year old (Spring) and 7 year old (Fall) based on the player's age as of April 30th of the given year.
  • The player must attend the tryouts, or obtain a waiver form the Executive Director and/or Board of Directors.
  • The player must be cleared to safely participate in Minors without being a hazard to themselves or other players.

 

PLay Up Rule

West Raleigh Baseball is a Cal Ripken and PONY affiliated league that hosts nearly 500 players from 4 to 12 years old each season. Home games are played at the historic West Raleigh Exchange Club in the heart of Raleigh.
