Spring Season

The Spring League baseball season begins with a mid-February tryout date.  Teams form and practices start near the end of February with games beginning around April 1st.  The end of Spring League Tournaments typically take place in late May or early June.  The Spring League is designed to offer a fun and competitive league play, except for our youngest aged Modified Coach Pitch League, where it’s all about fun!  The Spring Leagues include Modified Coach Pitch for 5-6 year olds, Minor League coach pitch for 6-8 year olds, Rookie League for 9-10 year olds, and Major League for 11-12 year olds.

All-Star Season

Highly skilled 7-12 year old players are selected from each league to represent West Raleigh Baseball in tournaments during June, July and sometimes August.  West Raleigh Baseball All-Star teams play in local and sometimes distant tournaments, frequently reaching Regional and National competitions.  West Raleigh Baseball has a rich tradition having won winning 9 National Championships and one World Championship.

Fall Season

The Fall League baseball season begins with a mid-August tryout date.  Teams form and practices start near the end of August with games beginning around September 1st.  The end of Fall League Tournaments typically take place in late October or early November.  The Fall League is designed to offer a fun and competitive league play, except for our youngest aged Modified Coach Pitch League, where it’s all about fun!  The Fall Leagues include Modified Coach Pitch for 4-5 year olds, Minor League coach pitch for 5-7 year olds, Rookie League for 8-9 year olds, and Major League for 10-11 year olds.

Major League Info

The Major League American and National is an advanced league for players 10-12 years old in the Spring, and 10-11 in the Fall.  Playing age is determined by how old the player is on April 30th each calendar year.

The Major League traditionally consists of eight to twelve teams.  The field of play is 70 foot base paths, with the pitching rubber located 50 feet from home plate.  Typically, there are two, 1.5 – hour long games and two, 1.5 – hour practices per week.  Games are six innings long, except that (1) no new inning shall begin after one hour and 30 minute time limit, and (2) if there is a tie after six innings, additional innings may be played to try to break the tie, subject to the time limit to start a new inning.

West Raleigh Baseball’s goal with the Major League is to continue to develop players on and off the field and prepare them for future baseball opportunities and experiences.

Rookie League Info

The Rookie League is a competitive and instructional kid pitch league for players 9-10 years old in the Spring, and 8-9 years old in the Fall.  Playing age is determined by how old the player is on April 30th each calendar year.

The field of play shall be on 60 feet base paths, with the pitching rubber located 46 feet from home plate.  The Rookie League traditionally consist of ten teams.  Typically, there are two, 1.5 – hour long games and two, 1.5 – hour practices per week.  Games are six innings long, except that (1) no new inning shall begin after one hour and 30 minute time limit, and (2) if there is a tie after six innings, additional innings may be played to try to break the tie, subject to the time limit to start a new inning.

West Raleigh Baseball’s goal with the Rookie League is to develop players on and off the field. Pitching and hitting development becomes a big emphasis for the first seasons of kid pitching.

Minor League Info

The Minor League is a coach pitch competitive and instructional league for players 6-8 years old in the Spring, and 5-7 years old in the Fall.  Playing age is determined by how old the player is on April 30th each calendar year.

The Minor League traditionally consist of ten teams.  Typically, there are two, 1.5 – hour long games and two, 1.5 – hour practices per week.  Games are six innings long, except that (1) no new inning shall begin after one hour and 30 minute time limit, and (2) if there is a tie after six innings, additional innings may be played to try to break the tie, subject to the time limit to start a new inning.

West Raleigh Baseball’s goal with the Minor League is to create a fun playing experience to develop a ‘love’ for baseball in our players.

Modified Coach Pitch Info

The Modified Coach Pitch (MCP) League is for 5 and 6 year olds in the Spring, and 4 and 5 year olds in the Fall.   Playing age is determined by how old the player is on April 30th each calendar year.

MCP traditionally consists of four to six teams.  The MCP League is a fun, developmental program to teach players how to play the game.  Typically, there is one, 1-hour long game and one, 1.5-hour practice per week.  Players receive the opportunity to hit a select number of coach pitches per at-bat prior to moving to the tee.  There is no official score for these games, no umpires or no end-of-season competitive tournament for this league.

MCP is our youngest age group at West Raleigh Baseball and the goal is to teach players in a fun, play environment.

Eligibility

All Wake County residents within the age restrictions are eligible to tryout for West Raleigh Baseball.

Tryouts

West Raleigh Baseball hosts league tryouts for Spring and Fall Seasons, traditionally in February and August.  West Raleigh Baseball will announce specific tryout dates and times during the registration period.  For registration details, follow our League News or via Instagram @westraleighbaseball. Players must be registered in order to attend the tryout.

Draft

At the conclusion of the tryout sessions, West Raleigh Baseball Leagues (with the exception of Modified Coach Pitch) and volunteer West Raleigh Baseball coaches will select players for each available roster spot.
